This summer I am sharing some of my favourite summer sewing projects. Today’s summer sewing project is the Carme Blouse from Spain-based independent pattern company Pauline Alice Patterns. They have a pretty collection of designs. Their aesthetic is focused on simple and practical design with a hint of ingenue whimsy. I have been a big fan over the years and bought many of their patterns (scroll down to see more of other projects I have sewn with them).

The Carme Blouse from Pauline Alice Patterns has to be one of the best indie patterns out there because it has a video sew-along to support you along the way! It took me a lot less time to complete this project compared to others because I had visual instructions. Pauline takes you through it all making it look so doable plus it is broken down into manageable and easy-to-understand chunks.

I loved PaulineAlice’s Carme blouse pattern the first time I saw it on Kollabora as a featured project. Within seconds it was paid for and downloaded to my PC. The bib front with pintucks really appealed to me. I also liked the clean simple lines of the construction. It looked like a good, relaxed fit top that would fit my lifestyle. Unfortunately, it wasn’t till a couple of months later that I got on to printing it out.

Fabric wise I bought a grey with white maxi hearts cotton rich crisp cotton….for the yoke I went for a crisp 100% cotton white for contrast. However, the crisp cotton was different from the cotton used for the muslin so there was a little less ease and drape with the cotton (note to self; use a close approximate fabric for a toile).

Yet in spite of this, the pattern came together so easily that afterward, I felt like I am an accomplished seamstress and I LOVE LOVE patterns that make me feel like that. This is because Pauline has put a lot of work into her pattern especially with the video sew-along clearly taking you through the stages. Mandarin collar – easy peasy lemon squeezy! Button placket? Piece of cake!! Pintucks? Made in a jiffy! French seams! The new love of my sewing life! I learned and used a lot of new to me details and it was so much fun!
