So around autumn I decided to set up an Instagram account and I am since hooked! Luckily I discoverd Sewvember which is hosted by Bimple and Pimple and basically its a photo challenge to post something based on a prompt each day of November.

bpsewvember

I have discovered a host of lovely sewing bloggers and their blogs and its been so much fun. Its interesting to do a 360 degree view of my sewing and I have identified areas that I need to sort out and also to figure out what my goals are for the coming year (i will have to do another blog post for this).

 1. Sewing Space my sewing gear has to be packed away in the corner of our dining room. Some day I will have an actual space I hope :-).http://instagram.com/p/u2jl-4tXI-/?modal=true

 2. Technique for my hems is I love using contrast bias binding for a pop of colour. I baste the hem first, iron to make a fold along basting stitch. Notch where its curvy then attach my bias :-).http://instagram.com/p/u5HgPrtXNe/?modal=true

3. Stash. This is what’s downstairs ,its about one third of my stash. More containers in the attic http://instagram.com/p/u70-wNtXPe/?modal=true

4. WIP Japanese sewing book Linen boat dress, Thread theory gold stream peacoat, self drafted A line skirt, Ottobre Design kids pinafore dresses. I like to have a few projects on the go. http://instagram.com/p/u-J2dHtXCI/?modal=true

5. Tools. My favourite tools : wonder clips, tailors clapper, hem guide. Simples :-). http://instagram.com/p/vA-BNotXJ9/?modal=true

6. You. Me.. I have one of those faces that always looks serious even though I have a wickedly great sense of humor.http://instagram.com/p/vDYgnLtXM9/?modal=true

8. Signature Style My style. Multiple Style Disorder best describes it…being newish to sewing I am still finding myself :-).http://instagram.com/p/vIoW0-tXGq/?modal=true

9. Next project is BurdaStyle Kasia skirt. http://instagram.com/p/vL2rMANXBE/?modal=true

10. Inspiration. Its difficult to pin down my inspiration to any few things…I find inspiration almost everywhere…guess I just love making stuff..http://instagram.com/p/vOqGNJtXGS/?modal=true

11.Early make. I made this Vogue dress for my graduation. I was broke and couldn’t afford fancy outfit but I had a sewing machine that I had got in my second year. Luckily the fit on Vogue was perfect because I didn’t alter anything. Finished it in 2 weeks with invisible zip going in the day before. UNFORTUNATELY I did not prewash fabric and it clung to me like crazy. Interestingly the marketing people really liked the whole outfit and they asked me to model for the graduate law prospectus specifically in that outfit. I did and I have lovely pictures wearing a barristers wig, collar and cape with my red Vogue dress :-). (2007 year I made this). http://instagram.com/p/vRCh3ktXIY/?modal=true

12. Favourite finish is twin needle for jerseys. So much neater than zigzag.http://instagram.com/p/vTxakDNXBZ/?modal=true

13. View. Across the dining table.http://instagram.com/p/vUSDRStXI2/?modal=true

14. UFOs are in my notebook where I write down everything that I have started to make since this year. Plastic bags all over the place….I did just finish a 3.5 year old UFO cum WIP.http://instagram.com/p/vYZK7hNXDo/?modal=true

15. Library. http://instagram.com/p/vagh6RNXHf/?modal=true

16. Organisation. this is the only organised bit of kit I have.http://instagram.com/p/vgNoPxNXEI/?modal=true

17. Planning. I love planning. It ends there; I have squirrel syndrome :-).http://instagram.com/p/vg7W10tXFN/?modal=true

19. Fit. I have mostly worked with knits and not done too much fitting. This Kasia skirt is my first woven skirt that requires fitting. Still have a lot more to learn. Which is the fun part for me!http://instagram.com/p/vmKufHtXA8/?modal=true

20. Notions. Happy mail today; Just received 10 invisible zips I bought on eBay for 27p/zip 🙂http://instagram.com/p/voM56VNXMn/?modal=true

22. Tried and True pattern. I thought I didn’t have a tried and tested pattern because sei far I have only made one if each item for me. But then I was sorting laundry when I realised that sewvember isn’t just about sewing for me! I have made McCalks M6727 5 times and its so easy and versatile. It also lasts a long time. My girls have been wearing these since May.http://instagram.com/p/v0MD5WtXBE/?modal=true

23. Patterns. This is my favourite as yet unmade pattern. Have loads more but this is the apple of my eye.http://instagram.com/p/vvZbtxtXO9/?modal=true

24.CHALLENGE. Getting myself organised is my biggest challenge. I put projects in bags and they pile up….http://instagram.com/p/v1BicjNXMy/?modal=true

25. Complete. My Christmas dress completed 2 days ago ; a Moneta 🙂 http://instagram.com/p/v1q5PDtXOB/?modal=true

26. Red Hot Mess: the first PDF pattern I bought was Colette Jasmine and I didn’t know you had to print to actual size without scaling…um…yeah….I have since learnt to read instructions -_-. Anyway it just didn’t match up and I didn’t understand till after I had half parsed finished it. It was recycled.http://instagram.com/p/v3koKptXK4/?modal=true

27. Best make so far has to be my Carme blouse by #paulineyalice. I loved making it and it looked better than I imagined.http://instagram.com/p/v5_sNRtXGP/?modal=true

29. Learning. In the coming year I am planning on doing some Craft sy classes to improve my sewing.http://instagram.com/p/v-kxzVtXG3/?modal=true

30. Top Tip  I have no authority giving advice as someone relatively new to sewing so my tip is for other sewing flutter babies : Done Is Better Than Perfect. Many projects have floundered because I wanted to get the perfect zipper insertion or hem or something else. Getting it done gives such a sense of motivation than waiting for perfection. I have loved doing #bpsewvember and thanks Amandahttp://instagram.com/p/wBxmPmNXE7/?modal=true
