Off the Shoulder.. Simplicity 8045 Top

Hello everyone,

Bare shoulder look……..I am a convert. This trend was not something I was keen on but it kept popping up on my IG feed and I decided to try making one. This simple top is  Mimi G Simplicity 8045 pattern that comes along with a free video sewalong which can be found on YouTube. I found this very useful as I did not have to bother reading the instructions. I hope the future of all sewing patterns goes down that route. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Construction .

I did not do the ruching. I wanted a clean cut look. Plus the only cream knit fabric in my stash was this slightly thick ponte. I was worried the ruching might look lumpy. Simplicity 8045 is actually a dress pattern but I just cut it at the hip. To my utter shame I was too lazy to change the overlocker thread and used pink. A lamentable decision as I can see the pink seams.June 18 345

I whipped it up in an hour from pattern cutting to hemming. Hems were finished with a simple zig zag

I love this top and I plan on making another one in a lighter weight cotton jersey. As it is, despite being off shoulder, it can get very warm. Sizing wise I would say it runs slightly small to size. Its a bit snug, though not uncomfortably so, but I would imagine if your boobies are larger the wrap might not stay put and ride up.  The upper part stays put by way of elastic and is very secure.

Its a great date night top that was well received on date night when I wore it with my Vogue 1486 skirt:-).

Do you have any date night sewing patterns to recommend? As the little people get older I sense more date nights in the near future….

Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the interwebs where I record my sewing journey.  Until next time. Happy Sewing!

Peace and love,

Hila

  1. Hila, you’re just so cute. In the WordPress Reader I saw the 4th photo in the preview. I thought to myself, “Hmm, the woman posing for the photo on the pattern envelope looks like Hila…” I come here and it is indeed you! I can tell you’re on top of the world with your new top. It’s not easy to wear off the shoulder tops. You need an attractive neckline, shoulders and collarbones.

  2. I headed over to check out the link and agree it looks much better without the rushing. Sleeker and more polished. Think the sales for this pattern will be going up, you’re looking fabulous! 😀

  3. Really cute, and so on-trend! Even better, it’s a Mimi g pattern which I love, perfect for date night. I’m going to have to give this one a try:)

  4. Hi Hila! Just popped onto wordpress for the first time in yonks and your fab outfit was the first to catch my eye 😀 I love it. From cutting to hemming in an hour – that’s impressive! Maybe you will start a trend with the pink overlocking. At least it’s better than black!
