Life lately

Its a lovely sunny bank holiday Monday as I write this up. Its been a long day and I feel so tired. My day started very early at 6am with an 11km bike ride along the canal. It was my first time on the canal, I loved every minute of it. As soon as I got back home, I had breakfast, packed lunches and herded my little people to the allotment.

The allotment was backbreaking work with a plenty of terraforming. Still, its a satisfying kind of labour. We lasted till 1:30pm when it got too hot to keep going. Back home it was work on the garden, repotting seedlings, weeding flower beds etc. And I still had to go for a swimming session later on in the evening.

Which brings to me to the point of this post. You see, I decided to enter a triathlon on a whim. As a result, my life now involves running, cycling and swimming training almost everyday.  I did not expect to enjoy these pursuits as much I am enjoying them. I joined a female only running group which has revolutionised my perceptions of running. Getting on the bike reminded me of my love of cycling when I was a teenager. Though I am currently using my son’s mountain bike, its still such a wonderful feeling to have the wind rush against my face as I speed downhill.

Of course, all this physical exercise has eaten into my otherwise sewing related time. Though I am sewing as much as I can, the ancillary stuff of taking photos and writing up posts is suffering. I guess I wanted you to know that I am still making stuff with a plan to blog once my training is less intensive.

The triathlon is on 8th June. Its only a sprint for people that have never done a triathlon before. I will have to swim 200m in open water, cycle 10km around a park and run 2.5km. I am taking it very seriously and giving it my all. I don’t care if I come in last place – I just want to finish it. So wish me luck 🙂

Thanks for stopping by,

Peace and love,

Hila

  1. I spent my afternoon cutting fabric after my (half) morning at the allotment. So pleased you are enjoying the running – joining a club makes all the difference I think – and any decent club is far from elitist – it’s just a bunch of like minded people – of varying abilities doing something together. I love Pontefract Athletics Club 💜

  2. Wow congratulations what an awesome thing to do.
I’m trying to recover from total knee replacement surgery & cringing when I do my therapy excersizes twice a day so I give you credit.
I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers

  3. Best of luck with your sporty pursuits – I limit myself to Zumba and Pilates but admire those of you who want to push yourselves. A very good friend of mine is a triathlete and has completed the Ironman challenge – she has the tattoo on her calf to prove it. Something to aim for? The challenge, not necessarily the tattoo 😉 I hope it stays warm for your swim.

    1. I had to look up what the Ironman challenge is and there I was thinking it has something to do with the superhero Ironman! I can imagine doing that but I am learning to never say never :-).

  4. I’ve done a HIIT class, cycled 50 miles and ran 5 miles over the last 3 days of this amazing weekend. I’m not bragging but my exercise is my mindfulness so can totally appreciate the enjoyment it can bring. Enjoy your training but be mindful of your body; which I’m sure you are!

  5. Go girl! I do have a question – what is an allotment? I’m from the US but visit England as often as possible. I just had surgery on my foot so I am wishing to get in an exercise program. You are inspiring me!
