Being a busy mother of 5 young kids, I don’t have the time to attend a more formal classroom setting thus making Bluprint one of the best accessible educational tools that I use regularly.

It has made the process of developing my sewing skillset more straightforward.

I got to thinking about the courses I have done over the years to improve my sewing skill set. I get asked how I can sew the way I do and what advice I can give. My answer is almost always that I am constantly learning. I am a dedicated lifelong learner – a point I made in my first podcast.

I have bought and learned from most of the Bluprint classes. Here is my list of Bluprint’s best online sewing courses.

Bluprint offers a free trial so you can try it out for size or you can buy a monthly subscription that gives you access to all the classes on the platform.

Plus with your subscription, you get some own forever classes.

If you want to top up your sewing knowledge and techniques in the coming year, you will find this useful.

1. The Classic Tailored Shirt

The Classic Tailored Shirt

When I decided to sew a shirt for the first time – the idea of sewing a collar was daunting but with this class I very proudly sewed a collar for the first time on Vogue V1440 DKNY Top here.

I started out with Craftsy when I was a baby seamstress in 2014. The very first class I ever bought when the platform was new was Angela Wolf’s jeans class which I watched and since learnt a lot from.

Essential Guide to Tailoring: Construction

I entered the Pattern Review Sewing Bee in 2015 and made it to the final round wherein we had to sew a tailored jacket in round 3. I used this class to help me do full tailoring for the first time and produced a Ralph Lauren style Vogue V8601 jacket I am proud of to this day.

3. Modern Jacket Techniques

I also used this class which I have returned to many times! Diane takes you through the process of sewing up a blazer step by step and its fantastic. I recently referred to it while sewing up my husband’s cashmere coat.

5. Fast Track Fitting – In The Details

Joi taught me my first fitting class in which I understood the concept of quarters and how to check the finished garment measurements to choose a sewing pattern. This class has a lot to get from.

And Suzy isn’t just any professional either – at the time of writing she runs Apparel Arts, a San Francisco-based fashion design school, so you’re getting world-class knowledge here. Her courses come complete with material that’s been created by her, and there are projects for you to apply your skills as you go.
