In this post, I am sharing my Burda 01/2019 #111 sewing pattern review. I sewed this sweater dress in the same month that the magazine came out. I always try to sew at least one project each month in order to justify the Burda annual subscription cost.

The knit fabric I used for the sewing project is a textured mid-weight sweater knit. The composition is undetermined as it was a market buy. My guess is that it is some sort of a polyester blend, based on the fact that despite many washes it has not shown any shrinkage.
It feels comfortable against the skin and keeps me warm. The knitted loops are shot through with a fine gold metallic strand that gives the material a subtle shine.

Sewing Pattern Details
Burda 01/2019 #111 sweater dress has princess line seams with inseam pockets and funnel neckline. Zipper closure at back.
What did you like about the pattern?
I love the funnel neckline that is grown on from the bodice. I also like the location of the pockets.
Was it true to size?
Yes. I sewed a size 38 based on my bust, waist and hip measurement. My sewing experience with Burda patterns is that they are true to size.
Design Alterations
I made no alterations at all.
Sewing Techniques
I used my overlocker for most of the project. The inseam pockets needed the use of my sewing machine. As did the faced neckline. The invisible zipper went in with the aid of interfaced seam. I recommend using a woven interfacing when prepping a knit fabric for a zip – it makes sewing it on much easier. If not for the zipper and the faced neckline – I would have considered it a quick instant gratification make. I did wonder if it would be possible to use a different stretch fabric that could omit the zip?

Verdict
I highly recommend this pattern for all sewing levels – a beginner seamstress can confidently sew this up with a stable knit fabric. The style lines are beautiful and it takes the sweater dress up a notch in terms of stylish chic. I can easily see this looking very nice in french terry with colour blocking.
