I am super excited to share the most spring-perfect dress that I have ever sewed. This is my Vogue 7253 sewing pattern review. And it all started with the fabric. What to do when you find what you think is the most perfect fabric in the world? A mixture of cotton broderie anglaise with some overlaid embroidery. It came in 3 colourways and I knew that I wanted to work with contrasting colours.

The style of Vogue V9253 has a beautiful kimono sleeve that works well for showcasing the blue and pink embroidered cotton fabric. The flared skirt makes for the perfect complement to the wide sleeves. I chose to use blue on the lower part and pink on the bodice. I lurve how it turned out!

Vogue 9253 Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Misses dress with extra-large kimono sleeves and flared skirt. Featuring pockets and belt with a deep V neck detail. I sewed View A – the midi length.

Pattern Sizing: I cut a size Small based on my bust measurement.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes. I don’t normally follow instructions but I did here. The belts are anchored on the center back which also has a zipper – I had to make sure I got the order of construction right. The neckline is finished with a bias binding.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I love the deep V neck which is eye-catching, as was the seventies vibe I got from the design.

Fabric Used: 100% Embroidered cotton. The base that the embroidery is on is quite lightweight but tightly woven. The fabric has a beautiful handle which shows in the drape of the wide skirt. I was worried the embroidery might be stiff but it wasn’t at all. You can see the drape of the fabric on one of my fabric haul videos (just scroll below).

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. Sewed it up exactly as shown, which is a rare occurrence for me! I did sew the pockets using a plain white cotton lawn.

Would you sew it again? – Yes! Absolutely – I’d love to sew this in a rayon (viscose). Its a gorgeous pattern that’s been a wonderful addition to my collection. I can see this made in differing lengths and with longer or shorter sleeves.

Would you recommend it to others?– Yes. Absolutely! The deep v neck might be an issue if you don’t usually like to show that much skin but this is easily fixed by adding a slip of fabric or sewing up the edges of the neckline to a more comfortable point. I have a small bust and am in no danger of wardrobe malfunctions!

Conclusion – I now have a dress that makes me feel like a million dollars! I love the way I feel in this dress – it is so extra!! Especially when I wear it with a large brim hat. Perfect for summer days.
