Hello, fellow sewing enthusiasts! It’s Saturday Night Stitch, and I’m back with another exciting sewing adventure to share with you. Today, I’m diving into the world of trousers, specifically BURDA 10/2018 #102—a sewing pattern that promises to deliver stylish and cozy wool pants. So, grab your favorite sewing beverage and let’s get stitching! When I saw the Burda 10/18 issue I was smitten by the style of the trousers despite the fact that I tend to shy away from sewing trousers. My forte is dresses and skirts. I was quite hesitant to begin with but once I got cutting into the wool fabric – things just flowed.
The fabric is truly gorgeous wool that I bought from a stall in Leeds Market that used to specialise in wool (Fletchers Fabric now focus on upholstery and curtaining fabrics). The colour is verdant green woven in with some teal to create a mottled effect. Being wool, it is incredibly warm, and therefore comfortable for these cold days.
Sewing was straight forward as I followed the sewing instructions down to the tee! I was glad for the fact that this does not have a fly front – the zipper is located at the side seam.
The finishing details
I love this project the best because of the finishing details that I used – an emerald green bias binding on the waist facing gives it a luxe feel. It looks just as professional on the inside as the outside. It’s a big deal for me because I tend to skip some interior finishings out of impatience to wear the garment.

Burda 10/2018 #102 Pattern Review
Pattern Description – Tapered 7/8 trousers with stitched front pleats are made without a belt and pockets. The buttoned flap at the back serves as a decoration. Find the PDF on Burdastyle here.
Pattern Sizing – EUR34-44 – I sewed EUR38. As with any sewing pattern, I started by carefully measuring myself and referring to the BURDA size chart. It’s essential to choose your size based on your hip measurement, as these pants are quite fitted an the hip, its easier to adjust the waist than the hip in my sewing experiance..
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – It looked like a fun stylish pair of trousers plus no fly front!
Fabric Used: 100% wool bought from Fletchers Fabrics in Leeds Market about 5 years ago. I was quite precious about it but it finally got put to good use. I enjoyed sewing with this wool fabric – the stitches sunk into it beautifully. Although while sewing these wool pants, I did encounter a couple of challenges. Working with wool requires a bit of patience, as it can be prone to fraying and slipping on the feed dogs. To combat this, I used a walking foot to ensure even fabric feed and finished the seam allowances with my serger to prevent fraying. Another tip I’d like to share is to press your wool using a pressing cloth thoroughly as you go along. It makes a significant difference in achieving crisp seams and a polished finish.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? Yes
Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!
Conclusion –
After a few dedicated sewing sessions, I finally completed my Burdastyle 10/2018 #102 wool pants. The end result? A stunning pair of high-waisted trousers that fit like a dream.
These pants are versatile, allowing me to style them for both casual and formal occasions. Whether paired with a chunky sweater and ankle boots for a cozy day out or dressed up with a blouse and heels for a night on the town, they are a wardrobe staple that I know I’ll be reaching for all season long.
So, there you have it, my sewing lovelies! Burda 10/2018 #102 proved to be a rewarding project that resulted in a chic addition to my fall and winter wardrobe. If you’re looking for a classic yet stylish pair of wool pants to sew, I highly recommend giving this pattern a try. Until next time, happy sewing, and stay creative!
