This is the second of my planned Burda 10/2020 sewing projects and I must say, it was quite an unexpected journey! To start off with I had to make alterations to the trousers on account of the fabrics having a bit too much stretcth! So, be warned if you want to make this style – I can confidently advise you to pick a less drapey knit – or perhaps go a size down if the fabric is drapey. The main thing I had to do was to add cuffs at the ankles because the drape of the fabric meant it was sweeping the floor. Adding the cuff made them more wearable. Besides that – the project does what it was intended – its a lovely bright floral loungewear piece that is comfortable, easy to wear and care for. #win.

Burda 10/2020 #103 Pattern Review
Pattern Description – Straight knit trousers with elastic waistband.
Pattern Sizing – EUR36-44. I sewed size 38 which is my Burda size.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes. This is a super easy pattern.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I needed to make a loungewear type pair of trousers for lazy weekends and early mornings when I haven’t yet showered but am pottering about. I liked the simplicity of the pattern.
Fabric Used: Lady McElroy Viscose Jersey Knit Fabric Pink – a softly draping viscose jersey with a lovely hand feel. Its is quite a lightweight fabric as far as jerseys go though not as light as an ITY jersey. The compostion is 97% Viscose, 3% Spandex and with a width of 64″ you get a lot of fabric to work with. I fell in love with the pink floral posies and pink shades.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added cuffs at the ankles because the drape of the fabric meant the hem was sweeping the floor. I like this as it also means I dont have to worry about tucking the trouser hems into my socks :-).
Would you sew it again? Yes – but using a less drapey jersey – I think they would also look great in a cotton jersey.
Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!
Conclusion – I set out to make a loungewear pant/trousers for easy weekend mornings and this does what it says on the tin with the added bonus of being a fabric colour and print that I adore. I am happy with them and having worn them these past 2 weekends I can see myself making more of these in funky jersey fabrics. Its a nice change from leggings!
