Update 3/5/2021 Since the autumnal equinox on 22 September, I have been busy with autumn sewing plans. Here is my latest project – Burda 10/2020 #104 sewing pattern review. The October issue of Burdastyle has been my favourite of the year to date. Choosing what to start sewing in this issue started me down an analysis paralysis route. This was compounded by the fact that the kids were back in school and the house needed its missed spring clean while the garden needs to be prepped for winter. So time was short, is still short. In the end, I had to be pragmatic and choose to start a project that would be quick and easy. Et voila! We have the sweater dress in a quilted chevron jersey! Took all of 1 hour to whip up, which adds to my love of this dress. (3/5/2021I have been wearing this so much! It’s a great high rotation item once finished – you can watch in action on my sewing makes video further below!)

Burda 10/2020 #104 Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Sweater dress with drop sleeves, hem band and roll neck. The length is below hip.

Pattern Sizing – EUR36-44. I sewed size EUR40 to make it an oversized look that I could layer easily. My usual Burda size is EUR38.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I like sweater dresses in winter and find that I wear them a lot. In colder weather, I have a thermal base layer under everything so sweater dresses work well with the practicalities of being a Reynauds syndrome sufferer.

Fabric Used: This was a new to me fabric that caught my eye with its beautiful colours. Mind The MAKER Chevron Quilted Knit Fabric comes in nine colourways that are perfect autumnal tones. The other thing that fascinated me was that this made, in part, with recycled polyester. Its composition is 85% Organic Cotton (GOTS) and 15% Recycled Polyester. At 160 cm wide you get a lot of fabric per meter to work with. I used up 1.5m to make this dress. The fabric is incredibly soft with a smooth handfeel. The chevron gives it some texture. The challenge was to line everything up on the grainline – it took a while but worth the extra effort.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. I just went for one size larger than my usual 38.

Would you sew it again? Yes absolutely! I will make another one.

Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!

Conclusion – By the time I serged the final seam on this Burda 10/2020 #104 I couldn’t wait to wear it. You know you are on to a winner when the very next day you pop it on and feel like the bee’s knees! The wine colour is just the right amount of pop within an autumn context. I sometimes find the transition from the bright bold cheerful colours of summer towards the more somber muted fall colours of autumn jarring. However, the colour of this chevron jersey didn’t at all make me feel somber. I feel like it is still in keeping with my love of colour. Its a fabric I will definitely be sewing more things with as it is so soft. My husband has also expressed an interest in a garment with the grey colourway!

Thanks for stopping by! Have you started your autumn sewing yet?
