Burda 2/2024 #128 Top Review – A Chic Essential or a Pass?

Hey, sewing friends! Today, I’m diving into Burda 2/2024 #128, a knit top that caught my eye with its minimalist yet elevated design. You know I love a good Burda pattern, but does this one live up to the hype? Let’s get into it!

Pattern Details

This top is a fitted, long-sleeve knit top with an elegant roll neck. Burda describes it as “effortlessly chic,” and I have to admit, that they got it spot on. Fabric choice is key here – a thick sumptuous jersey can elevate the look.

Fabric Choice & Sewing Experience

For this version, I used a Textured Stretch Knit Fabric Silver & Black , which added a lovely structured look while still allowing for comfort and movement. Ponte’s stable stretch makes it easier to sew than slinkier knits, and it really enhances the draped shoulder detail. Burda recommends knits with at least 20% stretch, so be sure to test your fabric’s recovery before diving in. I used this same fabric to make a Tilly and the Buttons Coco Dress. The fabric washes and keeps well since I wore that Coco Dress to death!

Construction-wise, it’s a quick sew, with just a few tricky bits around the pleats. If you’re comfortable with knits, you’ll breeze through it.

Fit & Styling

I sewed EU38 and the fit is true to size. Burda tends to run long in the sleeves and torso, and this was no exception. If you prefer a cropped look, you might want to shorten it. The structured ponte knit gave the top a slightly more polished, tailored feel compared to a softer knit. I styled mine with high-waisted jeans, but I can see this looking fab tucked into a pencil skirt or layered under a blazer for a sleek office look.

Final Thoughts

Would I sew it again? Absolutely! It’s a solid wardrobe staple with just enough detail to feel special. If you love clean lines with a bit of interest, this one’s worth a go.
