Burda 5/2011 #131 Review
Here is a sewing project (Burda 5/2011 #131) that I finished a while ago but it hasn’t made it to the blog until now. It is at best what I like to call a meh garment. There is nothing technically wrong with it – I just don’t love it as much as another pair of Burda shorts I have made (blog post coming soon:-).
Sometimes the only failure of a project is that it doesn’t live up to a similar type of project. In spite of that, I did enjoy sewing it up – it is possibly one of my most well-made garments.

Burda 3/2011 #131 Pattern Review
Pattern Description – Casual Bermudas with pockets on the side seams. The shaped waistband ensures a comfortable fit.
Pattern Sizing – EUR 36-44. I sewed a size 40 though usually I am a 38. I wanted to see if the Size 40 would give a looser fit – which it did.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – I liked the contoured waistband.
Fabric Used: Stretch denim purchased from Jack’s Fabrics in Leeds Market about 4 years ago.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None
Would you sew it again? No. I didn’t like the style enough to warrant a repeat. I have a better Burda shorts patterns that I loved more than this one.
Would you recommend it to others? – If you like sleek narrow Bermuda shorts then this is a good one to try. I happen to prefer a fuller style.
Conclusion – This project was a bit meh in how it turned out. I didn’t hate but I also didn’t love it. Consequently, it gets worn when I am doing gardening stuff.
Thanks for reading! Have you made a meh project recently?

June 29, 2020 12:24 pmSorry the ads are all over the page, I had to close them so I could even see where to comment. It’s very unpleasant and I can’t see the content… I can’t read it anymore which makes me very sad. It’s horrible.

July 12, 2020 4:10 pmGreat looking shorts but I can’t wear clothes with side pockets like these. They always gape open. What pattern did you use for your favorite shorts? Thanks.

August 6, 2020 12:59 pmThe pockets always gape on these shorts – though I have been wearing them surprisingly more than I had expected. They are comfortable to wear but each time I catch a glimpse of my reflection there the pockets are – gaping! The pattern I like for short is Burda 06/2018 # 105B – https://www.burdastyle.de/produkt/magazin-schnitt/hose-06-2018-105a_105A-062018-DL
