Burda 7/2019 #107 Pattern Review
As soon as I saw the faux wrap dress #107 in the Burda 9/2020 preview I knew it belonged in my wardrobe! The style is lovely feminine which can be played up or down depending on the fabric used. What surprised me was how quickly this dress sewed up. Its already been worn 3 times in the 10 days since I finished sewing it up. The John Kaldor fabric is deliciously lush and soft – quite similar in drape and feel to Art Gallery Fabrics rayon challis.
The faux wrap dress is 1 of my 2 planned sewing projects from this issue. I will be posting the skirt next week.

Burda 9/2020 #107 Pattern Review
Pattern Description – Faux wrap dress with an elastic waistband featuring long tapered sleeves. Available in 2 lengths – midi and knee length. I sewed the shorter version.
Pattern Sizing – EUR 36 – 44. I sewed my usual Burda size 38.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? – Yes. I was worried that since the image in the magazine had a belt over it that it might not look nice without a belt. Fortunately, my worries were unfounded as it wears beautifully even without a belt.
Were the instructions easy to follow? – Yes. I think considering this is Burda the instructions were reasonably good. The skirt back and front pattern are exactly the same apart from the fact that the front as an extension to create faux wrap skirt. To save on tracing paper and time, I just traced off the front pattern piece. To cut the back I folded the extension along the CF line and that is the CB line. The CB is cut on a fold so there is no need for seam allowances. To keep the v neckline from gaping I used fusible seam tape which works a charm.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? – The delicate femininity of the flare combined with the v neck made for an attractive dress to me.
Fabric Used: Lady McElroy viscose in shades of olive, blush pink, and plum. The dots are not so severe that it looks like a polka dot which gives it a certain level of sophistication. It comes in a blue colourway as well which I felt might too cool for an autumnal dress. I love the feel of this viscose – its soft much like AGF rayon. I was very impressed with the drape and handle.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added pockets (in seam pockets) 2″ below my waist because pockets are everything!
Would you sew it again? Yes absolutely! I’d like to make the longer dress version in a solid colour.
Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!
Conclusion – I LOVE how this dress turned out! The handle of the fabric is soft making for floaty feel when I walk and go about my day. Its delightfully fe This simple classic style can be sewn over and over creating different looks depending on the fabrics used.
