Have you ever sewed a garment that makes you think that you could live out the rest of your life wearing just this one garment? I recently made such a garment – Grasser No. 569 Oversized Hoodie Jumper Dress. The pattern is for a dress but I made it shorter. I have a Beginners Guide to Grasser Sewing Patterns video here or you can check out my blog post answering questions about sewing with Grasser here. What makes this dress the most comfortable is the fabric. It is a super soft fleece-lined sweat shirting that is perfect for tops and joggers with a slight 2-way stretch. I LOVE it so much that I have bought more of the different colourways.

What is loungewear?
I sewed the hoodie dress to fill an ever-widening gap in my wardrobe – loungewear. But what exactly is loungewear? Loungewear is defined as casual clothes suitable for relaxing and laying around at home. Now technically my old beat up yoga pants and leggings can be worn at home but for me its more about the combination of comfort and style. I like to feel like I am making an effort for my family but sometimes I don’t feel like wearing a dress or a skirt or jeans. Enter loungewear in my life.

The 2 Key Ingredients to Sewing Loungewear
After spending weeks looking through my sewing magazines to create a loungewear capsule and analysing from my own past clothing habits for what I pull out when I am lounging at home – I have my theory about the 2 key things that are important in this endevour.
High Quality Fabrics
My old go -tos for loungewear were all made of good quality fabric that remained soft and cozy even after years of laundry. The fabrics also were easy to care for; as in didn’t need handwashing or flat drying. Fabrics that are also warm – I have Reynauds Syndrome which means in colder weather I must keep warm to prevent the onset of painful chilblains.
Loose fitting Garments
Loose fit garments will give me the opportunity to layer. No vessel constricting clothes! I have a decent collection of thermal base layers that I wear everyday to stay toasty in my battle against Mother Nature.

Grasser Patterns No. 569 Sewing Pattern Review

Pattern Sizing
Pattern sizes – from 38 to 56. The pattern in each size is available in five ranges of heights – 152-158cm, 158-164cm, 164-170cm, 170-176cm, 176-182cm. When buying, carefully choose the appropriate size and height.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are in Russian so I didn’t necessarily follow these instructions. However I have sewn hoodies before so I could manage without instructions. Its is an easy simple dress to sew. Everything was sewed on the overlocker except for the kangaroo pocket. I used an eyelet maker for the first time and it was quite easy to do as well. In the absence of the eyelet tool you can sew buttonholes that will be used to thread the ribbon around the hoodie. I used a velvet topped pink ribbon that has been in my stash for nearly 6 years now!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I loved the oversized loose fit. It looked like a big snuggly sort of dress.
Fabric Used –
Super soft fleece-lined sweat shirting that is perfect for tops and joggers with a slight 2-way stretch that I first bought at Fabrics For All (now sold out there). The composition is 50% cotton 46% polyester 4% elastane. It is very comfortable and warm. I love the beautiful floral print on the fabric. It has pops of chartreuse and blush pink on ivory background. I have since found the same fabric at Minerva and its available in 2 other colourways (Pink and Green). Yay! So of course I bought more for the rest of the family!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made – None.
Would you sew it again? – Yes!
Would you recommend it to others? – Yes!
Conclusion
The marriage of Grasser No. 569 and the fleece backed sweater knit is a match made in heaven. I love the hoodie dress and have been wearing at any chance. Even on colder days (we don’t turn our heating on until November), I can pop it on over anything else I am wearing for an added warmth layer. I am very pleased with the start of my winter loungewear capsule wardrobe.
