McCalls M7349 Review
Updated 13/5/2021 Today’s post is a McCalls M7349 pattern review. I love this pattern so much that I have sewed it up twice. McCalls 7349 dress was a free sewing pattern that came with Love Sewing magazine. I specifically bought the magazine because of this free pattern. The idea of the dress came to me when I was at the Frida Kahlo V&A exhibit though I must admit that it marinated for a while before it was realised. The first version was in a Lady McElroy slinky jersey animal print in magenta. The second M7349 is sewn out of a ditsy print Art Gallery Fabrics cotton jersey.

McCalls M7349 Pattern Review
McCalls 7349 Pattern Description
Pullover fit and flare dresses (close-fitting through bust) have neck band, princess seams, raglan sleeves and narrow hem. B, C, D: Stitched hem on sleeves. A, E: Sleeveless. B, D: Short sleeves. C: Three-quarter length sleeves.
Pattern Sizing
6-22. I used the finished garment measurements to select my size – which was 10. I wanted a close fitting dress.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I am partial to raglan sleeves. I like to think that my broad shoulders look lovely and feminine in them. Whether this is true or not doesn’t particularly matter. I like raglan sleeves!
Fabric Used
For the first one, I used a Lady McElroy ITY “slinky” jersey in a bright magenta animal print. The drape and lightness of the fabric was suited to the gentle flare of the dress. Being a lightweight ITY jersey it shows up every curve in this style. For the second version, I used Art Gallery Fabrics cotton jersey in a ditsy print. I love the high quality of AGF jerseys as they keep really well and sew up beautifully.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made
None. I sewed it as is.

Would you sew it again?
Yes! I’d love to make it in a more stable fabric like ponte roma.
Would you recommend it to others?
Yes! This is an instant gratification sewing project as the pattern comes together so quickly.
Conclusion
I have a lot of fun wearing and styling this dress. It made its way down the Frocktails 2019 catwalk too! The pattern itself is good value for your money given the sleeve and length variations. Plus you can easily make a nice tee just by cutting it to the hip which would require less fabric than the sweeping maxi style. Definitely a pattern worth keeping!
