Today’s post is a Paprika Patterns Jasper Sweater Dress sewing pattern review. This is one of those sweater dress styles that can create an elevated fall look. The asymmetric hood design detail caught my eye. I knew that I’d want to play around with colour and/or texture blocking since it has princess seam lines. It all went well in terms of construction though I found the welt pocket section challenging. I got there in the end! The Jasper sweater dress is a lovely fall/winter sewing pattern.

Paprika Patterns Jasper Sweater Dress Sewing Pattern Review
Pattern Description
Designed with the cold seasons in mind, the Jasper is the perfect garment for snuggling up on the couch with a hot cup of something. This design features princess seams that give a closer fit than traditional sweatshirts and create flattering vertical lines. The single welt pockets are set in these side seams and are connected by a tube pocket on the inside. Hem and cuffs are banded. You have the option of buying an add on from the site.
Pattern Sizing
It goes from Size 1 – 10 which corresponds to 39.5″ to 49″ Bust. I sewed size 3 based on my bust and the fit is as expected. It is a slim fit style.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow?
I found the welt pocket construction to be a bit challenging. Otherwise, everything else was straightforward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I like the stylish collar that is moderate in size but with interesting detail and shape.
Fabric Used
Both fabrics were bought from a market stall. The stripe is a ponte fabric while the contrast is a textured sweater knit. The pattern calls for a heavier knit fabric with less stretch – which is necessary given the welt pockets.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made – None
Would you sew it again?
I would sew it again in a french terry fabric. However, I’d skip the welt pocket. Despite how clean and tailored it looks I think simpler pocket styles will do the job just as well.
Would you recommend it to others?
Yes – if you like your winter sweater dress to be a little more elevated then this fits the bill. You can have a lot of fun with contrasts.
Conclusion
Thanks for reading my Paprika Patterns Jasper sweater dress pattern review and that you found it useful. Have you started on your fall/winter sewing yet?
