My twin girls had the luck of being born just before I started sewing and as such, they have always grown up with handmade clothes. Since toddlerhood, they have accompanied me to fabric shops, helped pick out fabrics, and browse haberdashery. When I started sewing for them, I was completely in charge and could make unilateral decisions about the design and fabric, and colours used. But that only lasted for so long – a couple of years to be exact. I have learnt that if I am making clothes for them to wear – they need to be involved in the creation process (Sewing For Kids Advice). This is where we find this project. They chose the fabrics and trims from a trip to Fabrics For All and they browsed Ottobre Design Kids sewing magazines collection to select the pattern they wanted.

The pattern is from the summer 2020 issue. I added kangaroo pockets at their request. I do not like sewing with sequins and left up to me Id not ever sew with it. However, they love all things sparkly so I have no choice in the matter. And yet despite this – seeing their joy and hearing the excitement in their voices as they wear their dresses is so worth it!
