Today’s post is a Trend Patterns Raglan Dress TPC22 sewing pattern review that I made last year in the most gorgeous Liberty Silk. I’ll start off by saying that I never thought that I’d like this style of top with the blouse-y sleeves and the free form bodice, however, I am converted! The project was very much driven by the fabric as I kept thinking that the lovely drapey ness of the silk would need something to appropriately celebrate this particular property.

After much hemming and hawing I came upon Trend Patterns and the deal was sealed. The pattern comes in a dress form as well as a top. The dress is just a longer version of this. I’m doubtful I’d ever sew the dress version of this pattern but the top is just divine paired with this fabric. The silk is lightweight and was perfect for summery days where I wore it with jeans for the most part.

Trend Patterns Raglan Top Sewing Pattern Review

Pattern Description

The high collar and tie at the back of the neck is a very on trend feature and also makes this pattern very easy to construct as it requires no fastening. Along with that the raglan sleeve and gathering at the front neck make this piece a very elegant style for all seasons not just Autumn Winter. This is a combo pattern at a full dress length, which also features markings to cut a blouse length.

Pattern Sizing

Sizes 8-22. I sewed 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I am partial to raglan sleeve and quite liked the fullness tapered at wrist with elastic.

Fabric Used

I used Liberty London Elysian Day Regent Silk Sheer Chiffon Fabric which is lovely delicate sheer fabric from the Liberty Archive collection. For cutting out the chiffon I used Dylon starch spray for the fabric to stop sliding around (which it will do – its so floaty like that which is why it feels like a cloud’s kiss when wearing). For the neck I used black silk organza as interfacing.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made

The pattern has reverse pussy bow wherein the ties are at the back. I didn’t do the long ties and just used hook and eye fastenings.

Would you sew it again? Yes

Would you recommend it to others? Yes

Conclusion

This turned to be a surprisingly useful top that I reached for during summer as I found it easy to wear. In part that’s due to the gorgeousness of the light weight fabric but the design lines lend themselves quite well to daily wear with this top. I prefer tucking it into my waistband of my blue jeans with my nude wedges for a bit more of a polished look. Other times I swapped the wedges for trainers and it still looked chic. I am impressed with Trend Patterns TPC22 Raglan Dress/Top and will make a couple more. I think it would be gorgeous in a linen fabric too.
